Introducing The Academic Coach For All Project
WE’RE ON A MISSION TO CLOSE THE ATTAINMENT GAP FOR DISADVANTAGED CHILDREN AMPLIFIED BY THE COVID-19 PANDEMIC
During the past 18 months of office closures, exam cancellations and education turning completely on its head, we have been forced to diversify and grow the Academic Coach beyond imagination.
We’ve taken inspiration from the expertise and knowledge of the brilliant teachers who have stood by students’ sides during this turbulent time and diversified our offering to help our students in more subjects and key stage areas than we ever imagined we could prior to the pandemic.
During this period, we have seen the birth and improvement of remote teaching and seen how online learning when done well, is more convenient for both students and teachers and is equally as good, and in some ways even better, for building upon school learning.
So, as the dust starts to settle on the huge growth and change experienced over the last 18 months, we’re now in a position to give back and we’re really excited about the project on the horizon.
Our Mission
One of my earliest roles in my teaching career was that of a Free School Meal (FSM) mentor, which meant I was responsible for improving the attainment and outcomes for the FSM children on the school role. Back then, the attainment gap between Free School Meal (FSM) children and their peers was significant. It highlighted the need for change and lit a spark which the team at the Academic Coach is now able to metaphorically light.
We are extremely passionate about providing opportunities to ALL children, irrespective of their background and as a solution, we are proud to launch the Academic Coach For All project!
The ACFA Project
The ACFA project aims to close the educational gap by teaming up with local schools and businesses.
With these partnerships we are aiming to fund and provide extra tuition, career/university application advice and exam support to children on FSM and children that have been significantly affected by the pandemic. We aim to provide as many disadvantaged students as possible with intensive academic support, making a huge difference to their future opportunities.
As educators we witness this educational gap every day between children from affluent backgrounds and those that are not as fortunate. Since the Covid-19 pandemic, that gap has widened, meaning the disparity is greater than ever before. We’re allowing brilliant minds to slip away and we all lose as a result.
