Exam Techniques – Maximise Your Marks
Good exam technique is just as important as knowing the content. Even if you’ve revised well, how you approach the exam can make a big difference to your final grade. Here are some top strategies to help you perform at your best.
Before the Exam
✅ Revise Smart – Focus on past paper questions and mark schemes to understand what examiners are looking for.
✅ Know the Exam Format – Check how many questions you need to answer and how marks are allocated.
✅ Plan Your Time – Arrive early, bring the right equipment, and stay hydrated.
During the Exam
✅ Read the Questions Carefully – Highlight key command words like “explain,” “compare,” or “evaluate.”
✅ Manage Your Time – Allocate time based on marks per question. Don’t spend too long on one answer.
✅ Answer Every Question – Even a partial answer could earn marks. If stuck, move on and return later.
✅ Show Your Working (for Maths & Science) – Even if the final answer is wrong, you might get method marks.
✅ Structure Longer Answers (for English & Science) – Use PEE (Point, Evidence, Explain) or PEEL (Point, Evidence, Explain, Link) to create strong responses.

We’ve had such a positive experience with The Academic Coach for over a year. Both my children have been receiving private tutoring for maths and triple science. The tutors are patient, knowledgeable, and truly passionate about helping students succeed. They tailor their teaching methods to suit my children’s learning style, which has made a huge difference in their confidence and understanding of difficult concepts.
Since starting with Academic Coach, my children’s grades have improved significantly, and they even looks forward to their lessons now! The team is professional, responsive, and genuinely invested in their students’ progress. I couldn’t recommend them enough to any parent looking for excellent tutoring services.
